Religion Curriculum
PreK
The curriculum emphasizes the telling of stories from the Old
Testament and the New Testament. The stories focus on the Sacraments, the early
years of the Episcopal Church, and on key figures from the Bible.
Kindergarten
The curriculum emphasizes the telling of stories from the Old
Testament and the New Testament. The stories continue from the previous year
focusing on the Sacraments, the early years of the Episcopal Church, and more
key figures from the Bible.
First
Grade
The curriculum continues the emphasis on stories with particular
attention to people and relationships. The goal is to make the people of the
Bible and the Church come alive. Each of the themes involves a revisiting and
expansion of the stories first encountered in previous years. The Old Testament
sessions focus on specific people, their families, their actions and the events
in their lives. The New Testament sessions look more deeply at Jesus' life
among us, the people he taught, preached to, and healed. The Sacraments units
consider people in relationship to the Sacrament and to one another. Finally,
the Church units emphasize stories of people from the early years of the Church,
prayers and the lives of the saints.
Second Grade

Fourth Grade
The
curriculum for fourth grade uses the stories, people, and relationships first
met at earlier levels and examines them through the increasing complexity of the
students' world. The Old Testament sessions focus on the concepts of covenant,
prophecy, psalms, and wisdom. The New Testament sessions focus on Jesus' life
and ministry through miracles, parables, and the coming of God's kingdom. The
Sacrament units examine the relationship of living out the gospel and creeds.
Finally, The Church history refers to the figures, events, and traditions of the
Church both throughout history and today.
Fifth Grade
The curriculum and
chapel services are rooted in the Episcopal faith. As part of the curriculum,
the students are introduced to Christian Values, as well as the Sacred Stories
of the Bible through a variety of activities. Emphasis on how God wants us to
treat each other with kindness, love, and respect, is a recurring theme
throughout the year. The whole school attends chapel services twice a week.
