
Fr. Dennis Kezar was born in Webster City, Iowa and graduated
from
Ames
High School, where he competed in football, wrestling, and
track. He received the very first undergraduate degree as a member of the charter class of New College in Sarasota, and
was awarded a Woodrow Wilson Fellowship. He spent his first
graduate year of study in England at Oxford University studying
philosophy. Three years in seminary at the University of the
South in Sewanee
Tennessee
led to a Master of Divinity degree and ordination to the
priesthood. He returned to Oxford and earned the Doctor of
Philosophy degree in Systematic Theology in 1974. Fr.
Kezar served in
the Diocese of Southwest Florida as Canon Pastor of St. Peter’s
Cathedral and Chaplain to
Canterbury
School until 1979, when he was called as Rector of Christ Church
in Bradenton. He served there until 2004 and was very
involved in the remarkable development of St. Stephens School.
After retiring briefly, he was called as Rector of St. Mary’s
Parish in 2005. He is married to the former Sandra Wall Knight
of Tampa. Their family includes six children aged 29 - 45.
